Summer in the mountains has its unique flavor. It is a time when nature generously gifts us with fruits, herbs, and local delicacies, and the culinary traditions of the Beskids take on a special character. In Wisła, summer is not only about hiking and picnics – it is also about discovering flavors that stay in your memory for a long time.
Blueberries – the true gold of the mountains
There is no summer in the Beskids without blueberries! You can find them on mountain trails, in the baskets of local sellers, as well as in desserts, pancakes, and dumplings. (And blueberry buns! They are truly worth the indulgence!)
It is the taste of childhood that tastes best straight from the bush or in homemade pastries.
Sheep cheeses – tradition served on a plate
Oscypek, bundz, or bryndza – sheep cheeses are the hallmark of the mountains. In the summer, shepherds graze sheep on the mountain pastures, and fresh cheese products appear on tables. In Wisła and the surrounding area, you will find places where you can taste real, natural cheeses – smelling of smoke and mountain meadows.
Honeys from Beskid apiaries
Sweet, scented with linden, buckwheat, or raspberry – Beskid honeys are small works of natural art. It is also worth trying bee pollen or propolis, which strengthen the body. It is a souvenir from the mountains that not only delights the taste but also cares for health.
Homemade pastries and sweets
In Wisła and surrounding towns, you will find small confectioneries and cafes that tempt with seasonal pastries in summer. Blueberry buns (yes, we already mentioned them :) ), no-bake cheesecakes, or ice cream made from local ingredients are the perfect stop during mountain hikes.
Herbs from the Beskid meadows
Mint, linden, St. John's wort, or lemon balm – Beskid herbs are a natural treasure. Dried or fresh, they are perfect for infusions that soothe and refresh on hot days. You can find teas made from Beskid Herbs not only in many restaurants in Wisła but also at the Habsburg Economic Settlement – an open-air museum in Wisła Czarne, where a visit starts or ends with the best herbal tea made from Beskid greens under the sun.
Summer in Wisła smells of blueberries, tastes of honey, and delights with the simplicity of local traditions.
It is a perfect moment to try what nature and mountain cuisine offer – full of authenticity and closeness to the region.
