Malinowska Cave
The Malinowska Cave is located along the red trail leading from the Salmopolska Pass to Malinowska Rock, below the summit of Mount Malinów. It was described in 1849. Its depth is 22.7 meters, and the total length of the corridors is about 230 meters.
Folk tales convey that already in the 15th century the cave served as a hideout and place of worship for the Hussites, and in the 16th and 17th centuries for persecuted Evangelicals in Silesia. At the beginning of the 18th century, the bandit Ondraszek was said to hide there, and according to folk stories, the cave extended underground all the way to Żywiec. The Malinowska Cave appeared for the first time in literature in 1850 in Ludwik Zejszner's travel description to the sources of the Vistula River. Later, among others, Bogumił Hoff, Wilhelm Friedberg, Władysław Milata, and Kazimierz Kowalski studied it.
The cave is open to visitors. From the summit of Malinów, we descend several hundred meters along the ridge towards Malinowska Rock and turn right onto a clear path running almost horizontally, which leads us to the entrance. The entrance is located at 1080 meters above sea level. It is a vertical crack measuring 2.5 by 0.6 meters and 10 meters deep. The vertical sections of the crack have been secured with ladders. The cave has two sections built from narrow cracks connected by corridors and chimneys. The floor of the corridors in the first section is mainly covered with rubble and gravel, muddy in places, while the second section is covered with rock debris and clay. The largest chamber is called the Gallery and is located in the first section. It is 13.5 meters long, 1.4 meters wide, and 9.5 meters high. The cave maintains a constant temperature of about +6 degrees Celsius. A draft of air can be felt, and daylight reaches the bottom of the entrance crack and the initial part of the further corridors.
Access to the cave is provided by metal ladders and clamps, which is not a problem even for children. When visiting, remember to bring appropriate rainwear and, obligatorily, a headlamp.
